We’re working for you – to bring you the best Guinness, city by city
Ok, so joking apart, those of us who are partial to a good Guinness will know that Guinness has a knack of being better in some places than others. And, whilst a bad Guinness is probably better than a pint of lager (in my opinion) it’s always good to know where to find a good pint.
A few of us seasoned Guinness drinkers, you can know us as Brendan, Boots, Malc, Dave and Andy, have been looking for a good pint (“good” means a lot of different things to different people) in Barcelona for some time. So, because of the “hit and miss” nature of a good Guinness, especially Guinness outside of Ireland, (and more specifically my hometown in Co. Mayo), we decided to spend some time reviewing the creamy stuff, if only so we had a mighty fine excuse to get to the pub.
And so, here they are, our reviews – based on a set number of parameters, we give each bar a score based on it’s Guinness alone (and the Guinness Vibe – how good it feels in that bar with a Guinness).

What are the parameters we use for reviewing Guinness?
How we judge a pint
We judge every pint using a simple but surprisingly serious set of review parameters. First, we look at the pour — the technique, the timing, and whether the bartender treats Guinness like the ritual it is. Then we check the temperature to make sure it’s cool, not ice-cold or suspiciously warm. Texture and head come next: is it creamy, stable, and proud, or collapsing in shame? Flavour and aroma reveal whether the pint is smooth and balanced or veering into burnt-toast territory, and the aftertaste tells us if it finishes clean or leaves us questioning our life choices.
In plainer terms: we clock the pour (are they timing it — or committing crimes?), eyeball the look (Guinness, or a black coffee?), obsess over the taste (the only thing that truly matters), and weigh the price, because some pints are great… and some are €8.90. All so you never have to experience disappointment again.

the atmosphere, because the vibe of the bar also matters, and of course we note the price — good Guinness is worth paying for, bad Guinness definitely isn’t. Every review records when it was tasted, and we revisit bars over time to track whether things are improving, declining, or holding steady.
That’s it, that is the whole point of this website! And, because we want an excuse to get to a pub.
